Annette S. Parent

Annette S. Parent, J.D., Ph.D. is Senior Vice President of One3 IP Management. Dr. Parent counsels clients, including start ups, emerging and public companies, and universities, in global IP portfolio strategic development. She received her Juris Doctorate degree magna cum laude from Duke University where she was the Editor in Chief of the Duke Law Journal. Dr. Parent is a registered patent attorney, is licensed to practice law in California, and is admitted to the US District Court for the Northern District of California and the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Court.

Prior to joining One3 IP®, Dr. Parent was a partner in the San Francisco and Walnut Creek offices of Townsend and Townsend and Crew, and then a partner in the San Francisco office of Morgan Lewis & Bockius. There, her practice focused on domestic and international patent prosecution; opinions (patentability, non-infringement and invalidity); and landscape and freedom to operate analyses, as well as IP due diligence for acquisitions, mergers, financing, collaborations, partnerships, and licensing. Dr. Parent also developed a thriving practice assisting European patent counsel in opposition proceedings, representing both patentees and opponents. Her technical areas of expertise in the life sciences include nucleic acid technologies such as molecular diagnostics and therapeutics; protein technologies such as first and second generation therapeutic biologics, diagnostics, and vaccines; drug discovery platforms; recombinant protein manufacture and purification systems; cellular technologies; and targeted drug delivery systems.

Dr. Parent received her Ph.D. from the Department of Human Genetics and Development at Columbia University for her research on RNA splicing and processing. Following receipt of her Ph.D., Dr. Parent worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Oregon Health Sciences University, where she was awarded an NIH grant to study the molecular mechanisms of neurotrophic growth factors. Prior to entering law school she also performed postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina, investigating MHC class I molecules.
